McAfee VirusScan Plus 2008's interface strives to be novice-friendly, with cute green check marks and red crosses. Unfortunately, while the interface is novice-friendly, the program is not. Some advanced configurations are available only after drilling down two or three menus. During installation, McAfee asks for user input on an important settings question, but the small dialog box doesn't offer enough information to fully explain the ramifications of the settings.
Attempting to cover every security function, this suite handles more than viruses by adding a firewall, hard drive cleaner, disk defragmenter, and network security manager. By including everything and the kitchen sink, McAfee VirusScan Plus 2008 feels bloated and it used more memory than we would have liked. Help is convoluted, and there's a chasm between the novice and expert user. We simply found McAfee too complex for novice users and not as advanced-user-friendly as similar suites.

Kaspersky Internet security 2010 full with including Key
Kaspersky Anti-Virus is quite simple to use, with an easy interface and user-friendly navigation. The software is effectively organized for intuitive use, and features a simple color-coded graphic so you always know your security status (the traffic-light color-coded security status is actually big enough that “at-a-glance” is an understatement; more like “can’t miss it”).
The dashboard features simple left nav tabs and easy access to the quarantine, reports, and settings (where you’ll find the scheduler). The interface includes useful icons to identify the various components, and is effectively organized.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus has traditionally been geared towards the expert user. And while the advanced tools and abilities are still there (even allowing advanced users to perform scans at the command-line if they want), the security software is definitely showing more of a consumer-level approach. The 2010 version of Kaspersky provides solid security, and should work well for both beginners and experts alike.

Avast Professional Edition skillfully scans your PC and several programs for viruses, although configuring it is not for the faint of heart.
Immediately after installation, the program asks if you want to schedule an antivirus scan of your local hard drives at system start. You'll notice two icons in your system tray after installing Avast: one to configure the functions and another to activate the virus recovery database.
Well-designed, Avast scans executables, inbound and outbound e-mails, and P2P programs such as Kazaa, Limewire, and Morpheus. Instant messages received from several messenger programs are inspected for harmful viruses as well. The program was able to block URLs and common file operations such as renaming and deleting. We appreciated the sensitivity adjusters to get protection to desired levels including normal, high, or customized.
We must say this application did slow down our system while surfing and using other programs. Many of its configurations require intermediate know-how or better. Fortunately, it has a generous 60-day trial. Don't let the steep learning curve turn you off; Avast safeguards your system at optimum levels.
